Monadnock RSVP Volunteer Center looking for volunteers for Neighbors-In-Deed program

Loneliness, social isolation, and anxiety over what used to be simple tasks is permeating the homes of seniors, people with disabilities, and veterans and military family members throughout the Monadnock region. With one to two hours a week, you can provide a lifeline to these individuals who are trying to remain living independently.

The Monadnock RSVP Volunteer Center’s Neighbors-In-Deed program is looking for volunteers to provide assistance and companionship to those in our community who are struggling to stay in their homes. If a regular ongoing assignment doesn’t work for you but you still want to help, you can talk to the Center about becoming a handyman or a driver. To learn more about the program, and to see the profiles of some of those looking for help, visit www.MonadnockVolunteerCenter.com or contact program coordinator Jazmin Belcoure at jbelcoure@mfs.org or 603-357-6893.

River Center offering free tax filing assistance, other programs

The River Center’s free tax assistance program is open and IRS-certified volunteers are available to prepare taxes for those with incomes of up to $60,000. The center offers sit-down appointments, but also encourages busy filers to take advantage of its drop-off service. To utilize the drop-off service, filers can take an intake appointment, then leave their documents and return at a later date to sign their completed return for e-filing.

Other programs this season include a rescreening of “Screenagers,” a film about the impact of modern technology on kids’ brains and what can be done about it. The screening will be held at 6:30 p.m. on March 5. RSVP is requested.

Safe Sitter will be held on March 9 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The class will be at the Bond Wellness Center, 458 Old Street Rd in Peterborough. Registration is required. Cost is $65 per student.

To RSVP or learn more about these and other programs, including weekly parenting and play groups, call 603-924-6800 or visit www.rivercenter.us/register.
