Karen Peterson

Development & Fundraising Coordinator

Monadnock Developmental Services

In her work at Monadnock Developmental Services (MDS), Karen Peterson sees first-hand how area nonprofits assist those in need with the help of funders like the Monadnock United Way.

After a quarter-century career in the publishing business, Karen shifted her focus to the local community, taking on fundraising and development at MDS. Fifteen years there has opened her eyes to the depth and breadth of needs and the vulnerability of people in our communities. Karen recognizes that many people – infants, young children, teens, families, and the elderly – need the assistance provided by local organizations to survive and thrive.

Karen has lived in Peterborough for almost 30 years and been a supporter of the Monadnock United Way nearly that long. As a member of the Investment Team, Karen was part of a group of volunteers who made funding recommendations that informed MUW’s investments in local nonprofit programs and initiatives.

Karen has also served as a board member for the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce and a Peterborough Town Library trustee. She was an incorporator of the 1833 Society, established to explore and assist with the updating of the Peterborough Town Library.

A French major in undergraduate school, Karen earned a Master’s in Business Administration at Southern Methodist University. She is eager to use her expertise to help those in need, safeguard our social fabric, and ensure the strength of our communities.
