Throughout the final two weeks of the public portion of our 2018-2019 campaign, MUW and its volunteers and friends were sent out on a challenge. Thanks to the kindness and generosity of Jean and John Hoffman and Peter and Brigette Hansel, we were bestowed two $10,000 challenge match gifts.
The first of our two match challenges was used on Giving Tuesday. The entire MUW team celebrated the day with a Thanks for Giving Open House. Board members, agency leaders and community donors stopped by to engage with each other and make their match donations. The community responded mightily to our Giving Tuesday challenge! We raised $15,458 that day, for a total of $25,458. That surpassed last year’s total by $2,000!
On Dec. 5, we followed Giving Tuesday with our second annual Small Change Day. The MUW team convened at the Pub Restaurant on Winchester Street, greeting patrons on their way in and out, asking them to donate any spare change they might have. Ribby from the Keene Swamp Bats took a break from his winter hiatus to join us and take pictures and greet folks of all ages. We raised $301 in spare change (and a few bills!), which was doubled as part of the second challenge match of $10,000. For the entire week, all new and increased donations were matched dollar for dollar up until midnight on Dec 7. When all was said and done, YOU, the champions of our community, met the challenge and raised $15,536, bringing our total for the day to $25,536
So our two-week grand total was $50,994!
We once again proved that together, with the power of community, we can do amazing things!
