Admissions Policy
To be eligible to apply to the Monadnock United Way as a Partnership Agency or an Affiliate Agency, an agency shall:
- be incorporated as a not-for-profit corporation under the applicable laws of the State where it has its principal place of business
- be exempt from federal income tax under 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and have a determination letter from the Internal Revenue Service
- be eligible to receive tax deductible contributions under the provisions of 170 (c)(2) of the Internal Revenue Code
- be organized for objectives which are beneficial to the community and are usually recognized as charitable purposes such as relief of poverty, protection of health, improvement of social conditions, or advancement of education. The advancement of education shall not include organizations which are primary schools, secondary schools, trade schools or colleges.
- not request funding to sponsor, promote, or otherwise engage in the advancement of religion
- provide non-duplicative community service based on an identifiable, current social need, demand or problem in the community
- not discriminate by race, creed, color, age, sex, religion, national origin or sexual orientation in any of its programs, services, staffing and volunteers
- have active rotating volunteer Board of Directors that represent the diverse elements of the community
- have sound financial and program management, including providing Monadnock United Way with an independent annual audit and 990, where feasible
- support and cooperate with the Monadnock United Way in the areas of fundraising, planning and communications by agreeing with, signing and adhering to the Partnership Agreement (if a Participating Agency), or Affiliate Letter of Understanding (if an Affiliate Agency).
The above allows the applying agencies to participate in the Monadnock United Way allocation process. Eligibility determination does not necessarily result in Monadnock United Way funding. The amount of available dollars, the urgency of existing needs, and other key variables are important to the Monadnock United Way citizen review process and the final funding decision.
